Obviously, buildings have texture due to the materials used. Window frames, door frames, architectural details or ornament add relief qualities. Buildings must stand on their own as a testament to their structural integrity. They also function on the installation level due to functional necessities; we must be able to enter into their spaces to conduct our business. But architects clearly must go beyond these basic concepts, and the examples illustrated go that extra step, producing harmonious compositions with unity and variety which satisfy the eye of the viewer and the human need to experience art in our daily lives.
